Identity theft has always been a problem, but with more and more people using the internet, identity theft is now witched from just taking documents out of someones bit, to finding out personal information via the internet. It is different from common identity theft. Common identity theft is things that are physically stolen from you such as credit cards, drivers licence etc but internet identity theft can be much more distressing. Information about you can be stolen and you would not realise it until its too late.
So how does internet identity theft work? Well your computer collects and saves all kinda of information about you and saves it on your hard drive. Files like internet browser history, cache and internet files can be used to copy your online habits. these types of files store internet passwords and usernames and even credit card details. A theif can steal your information by either installing malicious software on your computer (spyware) which they can then use to send all of your details back to them automatically or they can steal your information whilst it is being sent over an unsecured transmission.
To help secure yourself from someone stealing your identity, you need to have good internet security set up on your computer. You need to set up a security system that can block all things that can harm your computer. This can secure your internet browser making it more difficult for thiefs to steal your identity. You also need to delete all temporary files on your computer every now and again, this can be set up on your security package to do it automatically instead of manually.
